Where is when?

Where is when?

What is where without a when, you can be in the right place doing the right thing but if it is not the right time then your efforts will be ineffective. You could be hitting holes in one all day long in your practice sessions or a perfect dancer in rehearsals, and that can be for nothing if you do not perform in front of audience. Your soulmate might have got the train before you and you will never see them again, and a lifelong friend may have sat down in a coffee shop next to you when you were busy sending emails, romantic comedies rely on serendipity to begin their plots, they are the opening scenes that set up the rest of the film, whilst giving us the false idea that we just have to turn up and everything else follows.

We certainly have to give serendipity a chance to act, we have to give it opportunities to work its magic and more than that we have to be open and aware enough to recognise it when it comes across our path. When it does you need to be ready to flow with whatever unexpected circumstances befall you, and engage with them when an open heart and mind.

The real magic of where is that it always contains a when, you cannot have a when without a where, they are the two states of a single thing. Physicists call this space-time, there is no time without a space, there are the four dimensions of space-time, the three that we can see, that are the physical dimensions of up and down, left and right and forwards and back. The fourth dimension is time, and time changes everything, without time there is no cause and effect, and the arrow of time as we perceive it is that an event causes the effect. If the effect caused the event, time would be running backwards, which would cause pregnancy to be even more traumatic.

It is not just that where needs time to be interesting, to change it from being a static model into an energetic event. The physical actually needs time to exist in the first place, every physical object is energy trapped in one location and that energy is in fact timeless, or at least space-time without motion. One way of thinking of it is to imagine throwing a ball up in the air, when it is at the top of its arc, it is stationary, has time and is solid, but when it is at falling at full speed it is only energy and timeless. We only ever see the effects of space-time, not the force itself, it is not something that is perceivable to us, in the same way that whilst electromagnetism is a single force, we only ever see the effects of electricity or magnetism, they can switch between the two but they are never a single thing from our point of view. An electric motor does that exact thing, it changes electricity into magnetic motion, we do not have an equivalent time motor that is perhaps why we have such difficulty seeing space and time as the same thing. Where we have space time we have an effect, it is a force with a single direction like gravity it pulls us through reality with a constant effect. Our lives drop us like an apple from a tree, from birth to death.

Unlike a rock balanced on a cliff, we are in constant motion for our entire lives and we can only be aware of our lives because of that motion. The rock does not experience things and most of all it does not experience time, from our perspective it can wait 4000 years before it drops, however it has no notion of being there or here, it doesn't live the experience. The only part of it that could be said to be alive is the energy that is stored in the rock, that is the energy of movement from the top of the cliff to the bottom. We on the other hand get to perceive that motion, we experience energy, we eat food and turn it into energy, that is how we then experience as our lives.

It is the appreciation of time that is the human experience, and is so unique and special, that people believe that God or source created the universe just so that they could an explanation for that experience. We were given the freedom to have any experience we wished within the physical universe, the price of admission to this ultimate experience was to give up the spiritual experience of oneness. The reason given for this price was that remembering the spiritual experience requires having the experience which takes away the unique human experience of having freewill.

That is the foundation of having choice, it is impossible to have a choice without free will, there are certainly those who would argue that free will is an illusion. That our genes, who our parents are, our life situation and past experiences predetermine our current choices. However setting aside the idea that we pre-choose our lives, our life situations before living them, it is probably more accurate to say that these things limit our range of choices and we only have free will over which one we then choose. I certainly prefer the more optimistic idea that we get to create and manifest the world that we envision, that we get an active choice whilst playing the game. I have found that the more I believe in a world full of good and interesting people who acting in a decent way, the more I meet good and interesting people who happen to act in a decent way. I'm not sure what came first my belief or the belief manifesting in my life, but once you have something it stops being a belief and becomes a state of being. I do not have to believe any more, I am just someone who meets good and interesting people, and being takes a lot less energy than believing, and the universe seems to be quite lazy and it will always take the path of least energy. If that is changing the universe to fit the picture in your mind, it seems to be easier than changing your mind.
